Lwówek is one of the oldest towns in Wielkopolska region. Its history goes back to the past our town used to be called Lwów; since the middle of the 16th c. in has been called Lwówek.
The town was bestowed its municipal rights in 1414. Due to numerous privileges Lwówek started to develop quickly and soon became one of the largest towns in Wielkopolska region. However, fires destroyed the town in 1638 and 1696. Furthermore, in the 17th c. the town and its surroundings were plundered by the Swedish troops. In 1771 Lwówek was in its prime and its population rose up to 3 thousand people. After the 2nd Partition of Poland the town belonged to Prussia . In 1807 – 1812, during Napoleons Wars the town was destroyed again. In spite of numerous disasters, since 1920 Lwówek developed quickly. Lwówek became a buoyant centre of trade and handicraft.
After the liberation from the German occupation in January 1945 Lwówek has not regained its greatness. Only in 1970 – 1980 infrastructure and handicraft were started.
The present period of political transformation is conducive to the proper development of the town and community. We have been investing in infrastructure which has enabled production, service and trade business.
